JEFF PETERSON

KUKUI NUT RUN

Jeff Peterson on Kukui Nut Run:

"The Kukui Nut Run was inspired by a story my father told me about some of the other paniolo, or Hawaiian cowboys, he worked with on the Hāleakalā Ranch on the island of Maui. The song is in the traditional style of Hawaiian slack key guitar which uses open tunings to reflect the aloha spirit and impressions of the Hawaiian islands, culture, and people. The song was filmed on location on the Hāleakalā Ranch near the pasture where Jimi Hendrix performed and filmed his Rainbow Bridge concert on July 30, 1970. Though the concert happened before I was born, I grew up just up the hill from this spot and would often imagine being there in the front row."
